The work from home revolution.

But not all businesses are suited to being operated from home.

  • What type of home based business start up will you be operating?
Will it be an at home or from home business.
  • What product or service will you be providing?

  • Different businesses require different licences and permits. You will also need to meet your local councils' zoning and planning requirements.

  • Will customers/clients be visiting your home?

  • If so you may need to provide bathroom facilities and parking options. Some councils have planning regulations in place that state that you must provide off street parking for your customers. Check with your local council about planning and zoning regulations in your area.

  • Will you be turning raw material into product?
Do you have a large enough work area to store raw materials? Is there enough room to accomodate your production process? You will need to make sure that you do not exceed acceptable noise levels. What is acceptable will depend on the zoning of your property and on the type of business that you will be operating. Check with your local council about your specific circumstances.
  • Will your work area be separated from the family home?
This is something to consider if you will be employing staff or having customers visit you. Some people are comfortable having staff and/or strangers and customers in their homes, others aren't as relaxed about the idea. If you do not have a separate area for your home business can you utilize a spare room or adapt some other part of your home to suit your requirements?
