How to Write Business Plan?

yellow notepad,legal notepad,notepad

How to write business plan is one of the first steps to starting a small business. Performing new business marketing research will uncover a wealth of information about your new business.

You should then document this information into a business plan. The plan can then be used as a blueprint for the future direction of your business.

Writing the Plan

How to Write Business Plan? A typical business plan for an average small business is roughly around 40+ pages long, plus appendices and any supporting information.

If writing your ideas down on paper is a new experience for you then you might feel a little uncomfortable with the thought of preparing a 40+ page document.

And if you are the pen and paper type but are not familiar with the concept of how to write business plans then the thought of sitting down to write one probably won't excite you either.

But if you are serious about your business success then drafting your business plan layout is something that you really should do. Statistic show conclusively that businesses with a written business plan have a greater chance of succeeding than those without one.

Business Research Process

In compiling your business plan you have a few options:
  1. you can write the plan yourself
  2. you can draft it and then have it professionally prepared, or
  3. you can have the plan professionally written and/or researched.

Familiarise yourself with the typical business plan layout and read about the elements of a business plan. You will then have a better understanding of what is involved and the process will be a little easier.

Business Plan Tips

For most new small businesses I would suggest going with option 1 or 2. Options 1 and 2 will be less expensive. But more importantly you will learn so much more about your business.

If your business is going to require substantial amounts of finance for equipment purchases etc then I would investigate the option of having the plan completed by a professional. Your accountant or solicitor should be able to help you with this.

Compiling a plan involves a lot of research. Research on your competition, your market, your pricing stategies, your strengths and weaknesses and much more. Completing a business plan forces you to think about all areas of your business. The knowledge that you will gain from this research is invaluable.
